Five people were shot and wounded while attending a repast for a recent shooting victim in McComb on Saturday night.
Gunfire broke out at the Petro Plus convenience store on the corner of Presley Boulevard and Bendat Street on Saturday evening, McComb Police Chief Juan Cloy said.
The victims had been attending the repast across the street at the Presley Event Center.
“As you can see, multiple shots fired, total disregard for human life, safety,” Cloy said. “ Whether you were aiming at particular individuals or not, you could have hit somebody who you were not aiming for.
“We’re going to put a stop to this.”
Police were still searching for suspects Saturday night.
Cloy said four of the five victims went to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where a large crowd of people gathered under a heavy police presence after the shooting. A fifth victim was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with injuries that were considered to be more serious but not life-threatening, Cloy said.
“It appears everybody is going to be fine,” he said.
Meanwhile at the convenience store, police and Pike County sheriff’s deputies found bullet holes at the store and numerous shell casings in the parking lot and along Bendat Street.
The event center is the location of another shooting that occurred in March 2022.
