A drive-by shooting wounded two juveniles who were shot while they played basketball Wednesday night on Fernwood Road, and sheriff’s investigators are looking for the gunman.
Chief deputy Brad Bellipanni said the shooting occurred around 7:45 in the 5000 block of Fernwood Road.
“They were shooting basketball and a vehicle came by, shot at the young men playing basketball and one was shot in the left buttock and the other was shot in his left leg,” he said.
The victims, whose names aren’t being released because of their age, went to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center via private vehicle for treatment.
“We still believe it’s this gang activity,” Bellipanni said.
Investigators had no information on a suspect or the type of vehicle that was used in the shooting, Bellipanni said.
“We at the sheriff’s office, we have to have people help us help them. If you see something, say smething. We need the public’s help,” he said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office (601) 783-6767 or CrimeStoppers of South Central Mississippi at (601) 869-7141.
