Five men are facing gun and drug charges after sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle reported for suspicious activity and allegedly found a cache of guns and ski masks.
Pike County sheriff’s officials said in a news release that deputies pulled over a Dodge Charger at 8:09 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Magnolia-Holmesville Road and Old Highway 24 after it had been reported “driving back and forth in the area” of Fernwood Road near Pleasant Grove Road.
Deputies searched the vehicle and found five guns, three ski masks, 38 grams of marijuana, $760 cash, a T-Mobile portable WiFi router and a black toboggan.
Deputies arrested Brandon Dean, John Osby, Xavier Pittman, Jaylin Hawthorne and LeCameron Reynolds and charged them with felony possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm.
Sheriff James Brumfield credited Lt. Mark Thompson and his shift with making the arrest, which he said came as the result of “proactive policing.”
“As a result of their efforts, we were able to take these weapons off the streets before a more serious crime occurred,” Brumfield said.
