Two shootings occurred within a 90-minute span in what appeared to be unrelated incidents Saturday night in McComb, and both victims have been taken to a Jackson hospital, police said.
Chief Detective Victoria Carter said Labradford Leggett, 28, was shot near the corner of St. Augustine Street and Dyson Drive at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Carter also said Dequantae McGhee, 26, was shot on the 200 block of Sixth Street about 11 p.m.
Both victims are McComb residents and police took them to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after the shootings and later transferred.
Carter said she did not know the conditions of the victims as of Monday afternoon.
She said police did not have suspects or know the motive behind either shooting, but she believed the two incidents were unrelated.
Carter said Leggett was at standing in apartment doorway near the intersection of St. Augustine Street and Dyson Drive when he was shot.
The plan was for an ambulance to take Leggett to hospital, Carter said.
"Because it was taking AAA too long, that is the reason for the officers transporting him to the hospital,” Carter said, referring to the ambulance service.
AAA CEO Chuck Carter said Tuesday that an ambulance responded to the scene after Leggett had been taken away from the scene.
"We received a call to respond to that call. Our ambulance responded from the station in McComb and the patient had been transported prior to our arrival,” he said.
Carter encouraged anyone with information to contact either the McComb Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
"They can just call CrimeStoppers if they want to stay anonymous,” she said.
The number to the McComb Police Department is (601) 684-3214 and Crime Stoppers is (888) 755-8810.
