Pike County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting that wounded a man early Tuesday.
Deputies responded to a residence on Highway 48 East of Magnolia, where they found the victim and started administering aid, sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
Chief Deputy Brad Bellipanni said the victim suffered four gunshot wounds, including one to the chest.
The victim’s name hadn’t been released as of Tuesday afternoon because deputies were still trying to notify his family about the shooting, Bellipanni said.
No arrests were made as of Tuesday, he said.
The victim went by ambulance to a Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center and was transported to a Hattiesburg hospital with critical injuries, Bellipanni said.
Convenience store robbed
In another matter, sheriff’s officials are looking for a gunman who held up a Highway 44 convenience store at 10:09 p.m. Saturday.
The robber, wearing a red hoodie and a blue Ole Miss face mask, held the clerk of the VP Racing Fuels store a gunpoint as he demanded money from the register.
“Give me the change, right now, all of it,” he tells the clerk in surveillance video posted to the sheriff’s department’s Facebook page before clarifying he wants bills, not coins.
As he turns to leave, he tells the clerk, “Appreciate you.”
“There is no doubt in my mind somebody can identify this individual for us,” Bellipanni said. “Somebody knows who that is.
“If people are pulling guns on convenience store clerks then we need to get them off the street, because if they’ll do it once, they’ll do it again.”
