ALDI opens for business

ALDI, the German private-label grocery company, has found a home in a portion of the old JC Penney space in the Uptown McComb mall and held a soft opening Wednesday, allowing customers to shop ahead of today’s official opening.
Doors officially opened at 9 a.m. today. Store hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.

Library grapples with plumbing after freeze

The recent hard freeze that hit Southwest Mississippi over the Christmas holidays wreaked havoc on the McComb library’s sprinkler system, which was discovered after the staff returned to work.
“Our sprinkler system had frozen and sprung a leak,” assistant director Kelli Miller said. “We called United Piping in Jackson to fix the issue.”

Campaign season kicks off

Election season has officially begun, with more than 20 candidates filing to run for office so far in Pike County in the first week of the month long qualifying period.
The deadline to qualify is Feb. 1.
Party primaries are Aug. 8 and the general election is Nov. 7.

Pike woman’s grandson a hit on Broadway

Kennedy Kanagawa, the grandson of longtime Pike County resident Ann Wiltshire, made his debut in the Broadway revival of James Lapine’s “Into the Woods” in July and will wrap up the production next month.
The show has been presented at the St. James Theater in New York City.
