Accident kills truck driver on Highway 44

A one-vehicle accident killed a truck driver Friday afternoon on Highway 44 near Cole Thomas Road. The driver's name wasn’t immediately released, pending notification of next of kin. Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Craig James said the accident happened around 11:35 a.m. when the eastbound rig struck a tree before catching fire.

South Pike receives DoJ grant to prevent violence

The South Pike School district is receiving a nearly half million-dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to prevent violence in schools.
U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., announced the awarding of $10.8 million in Community Oriented Policing Services grants on Tuesday.

Park Drive Ext. overpass to close Friday

The bridge on Park Drive Extension crossing Interstate 55 in McComb will close Friday as crews elevate the span.
It’s the second overpass of four that will be closed, jacked up and raised by several feet. The work is part of an ongoing project along Interstate 55 stretching from the South McComb exit to Summit.
