- Work on replacing the Homochitto River bridge on Highway 98 in Franklin County is continuing and is expected to last until summer 2026, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

MDOT gives update on local projects

The replacement of the Highway 98 bridge over the Homochitto River is ongoing and expected to be completed by summer 2026, Mississippi Department of Transportation officials said.
The work began in November to replace the decades-old truss bridge with a new concrete bridge.

Absentee voting for primary ongoing

Absentee voting is underway for the March 12 primary.
Absentee ballots can be cast at the circuit clerk’s office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 2, for absentee voting and again on March 9, which is the deadline to vote absentee.

Man gets life in Waffle House killing

A Brookhaven man will spend life behind bars for the 2021 slaying of a woman at a Waffle House, District Attorney Brendon Adams said.
Willie Walker, 34, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the Nov. 1, 2021, shooting death of Myrtessia Catchings.
