Four candidates filed their paperwork before the deadline passed Wednesday for the Oct. 18 special election to determine who will represent McComb’s Ward 4 seat on the city board.
The seat became vacant when Selectman John Bates died earlier in the month after taking office in July.

Amite supervisors hear pitch for paving equipment

LIBERTY — Amite County supervisors heard a sales pitch Monday for paving equipment to tackle road work throughout the county.
Ralph Moon, a sales representative for Hattiesburg-based Mid-South Machinery, presented information on a distributor truck, chip spreader, asphalt pavers, brooms and pothole patchers.

Officials break ground on new $200M sawmill in Gloster

GLOSTER — Gloster Forest Products, a new $200 million sawmill located where Gloster’s old Georgia-Pacific mill once stood, is expected to bring at least 130 jobs when it begins manufacturing lumber in early 2024, officials said a groundbreaking ceremony for the mill on Tuesday.
