SMCC softball camp reaches youth

Young children were the majority of participants when Southwest Mississippi Community College softball coach Shea Johnson and assistant coach Maggie Jackson put together a camp for May 31 and June 1 teaching some of the game’s basics.

Casey introduced as SMCC women’s soccer coach

Betty Ann Casey was formally introduced as the Southwest Mississippi Community College head women’s soccer coach at a press conference Tuesday.

She comes from the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., where she was the head coach for the past three years.

Tylertown track teams reflect on state titles

TYLERTOWN — The Tylertown High School track teams won state championships at the same time in school history as both rosters secured the 3A titles at Pearl High School in May.

The Chiefs have won the state championship five straight seasons, but the Lady Chiefs won for the first time since 1994.

The ATAK 04, a traveling softball team consisting of athletes around age 12, won a three-team tournament at the McComb Sports Park Saturday, finishing with a 3-1 record.

ATAK 04 defeated Southwest Slam 03 12-0 and 13-4 and split with the Lady Lightning with a 6-4 victory and 7-5 loss.
