Patterson calls special meeting illegal

An Aug. 25 meeting in which McComb selectmen approved an ordinance authorizing them to sign city checks was improper because Mayor Zach Patterson was not notified of it, the mayor said Tuesday night.

Patterson’s comments came during a discussion of the special meeting’s minutes at Tuesday’s meeting of the city board.

Pike sees jump in July j obless rate

Pike County’s unemployment rate hit double digits in July, according to information from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

According state statistics, Pike County’s July unemployment rate was 11.2 percent, 1.4 percent more than its 9.8 unemployment rate for June.
