POPLARVILLE — Both Southwest Mississippi Community College basketball teams dropped a pair of South Division games Tuesday night to Pearl River.

The Lady Bears lost 69-48, while the Bears fell 77-65.

Southwest runs past Holmes 75-50

Giving one of its best performances of the season, Southwest Mississippi Community College dominated visiting Holmes on Thursday for a 75-50 victory.

Avenging an 84-73 loss at Holmes in November, Southwest evened its record to 6-6 with the win. The Bulldogs fell to 8-4.

Free throws help SMCC in win

The Southwest Lady Bears overcame poor shooting Monday night by being nearly perfect from the free throw line to defeat visiting Delgado, 55-48, to close out the 2011 portion of the schedule.

With the win, the Lady Bears go into the Christmas break at 3-7 overall (0-1 in the MACJC South Division).
