SMCC lineman Calhoun signs with Minnesota

Southwest Mississippi Community College’s Vincent Calhoun has signed a scholarship to continue his career with the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers.

Calhoun a 6-foot-4, 330-pounds offensive lineman from Centennial High School in Roswell, Ga., signed with Minnesota after capping a successful two-year career with the Bears.

SMCC women improve to 9-1 with 59-49 victory

The Southwest Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team closed out the 2015 portion of their schedule Saturday afternoon with a 59-49 road win, their sixth straight victory, at Baton Rouge Community College.

With the win, the Lady Bears moved to 9-1 on the season and 2-0 in the MACJC South Division. BRCC dropped to 5-6.

Mills to lead SMCC men’s soccer

Southwest Mississippi Community College has hired Zach Mills as head coach for the men’s soccer program.

Mills will serve as interim coach for the women.

College trustees voted to hire Mills on Tuesday night.
