Summit seeks bids to fix three streets

Summit officials are moving forward with plans to repave three streets on the west side of town, although the work will be spread out over time in order to prevent borrowing money to pay for it.
The town council agreed Tuesday to advertise for bids for the work to take place on White Oak, Palmetto and Hickory streets.

Supervisors rethinking raises; hearing slated

Pike County supervisors are rethinking across-the-board raises as the 2025-26 budget takes shape. Supervisors will hold a budget work session at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Supervisor Justin Lofton, advocating for the raises, said “if you’re going to do it for one, you have to do it for all.”

Fair seeks funds, help; no carnival this year

The Pike County Fairgrounds is in need of money and maintenance, and the annual county fair that supports its budget won’t happen this year after the carnival operator refused to return out of concerns over crime.
