McComb done for year with 14-2 loss to Purvis

After winning three more games this year than in the 2017 season, the McComb Tigers’ season ended Friday night with a 14-2 loss to the Purvis Tornadoes in the first round of the playoffs in McComb.

Friday’s win helped Purvis clinch the best-of-three series following a 9-1 in Purvis on Thursday.

JACKSON — Out of 10 of the most elite male student-athletes in the state, Parklane’s Newlon Gillihan was recognized as the cream of the crop.

Gillihan was named the winner of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship and was honored at a banquet luncheon Thursday morning at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson.

Jags beat Brookhaven, 10-3 in Game 1

The North Pike Jaguars opened the playoffs in impressive fashion with a 10-3 win on the road against the Brookhaven Panthers Thursday night.

North Pike (10-11) opened up scoring in the first inning, when Parker Phillips singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
