Deputies shut down drag racers

Pike County sheriff’s deputies put the brakes on drag racing on Highway 570 Sunday night, hauling 16 speed demons to jail.

Chief Deputy Johnny Scott said those arrested Sunday were allegedly racing near the Shell Oil Road intersection, not far from where the stretch of highway flattens as its crosses the Bogue Chitto River.

Engine problems

McComb’s fire department was put in a bind back in October when several of its trucks were put out of commission, prompting the city to borrow engines from neighboring departments to ensure adequate protection.

“Thanks to neighboring departments we were never without service,” Fire Chief Gary McKenzie said.
