Magnolia aldermen appear set to vote tonight to remove the Mississippi flag from city hall as controversy over the flag’s meaning continues to be debated.

The argument over whether to keep the flag has exposed deeply-held rifts about its symbolism.

Three injured in Magnolia wreck Sunday

A one-vehicle accident in Magnolia injured three people Sunday night.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Brandon Fortenberry said Gary Johnson, 54, of Magnolia, was driving his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Highway 48 when the vehicle apparently hydroplaned and left the road.

A community fireworks celebration sponsored by the Pike County Baptist Association will be held at the Southwest Mississippi Community College football stadium from 7 to 9 tonight. The event will include hotdogs, jambalaya, watermelon and more, along with singing, children’s activities and guest speakers. The fireworks display will be around 8:30, weather permitting.
