No tax increase planned in Magnolia budget

Calling it “fiscally conservative” Magnolia Mayor Anthony Witherspoon said the city’s $2.2 million 2015-16 budget calls for no tax increase and more efficient management of the city’s finances.

The board will hold a public hearing on the budget at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and vote on it afterwards. The new spending plan takes effect Oct. 1.

Hosemann schooling voters on education initiatives

Although he remains busy with the general election, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann expressed concerns during a visit to Pike County on Tuesday that voters do not have all the facts regarding competing constitutional amendments regarding school funding.

As Secretary of State, Hosemann is tasked with overseeing elections.

Dillon files challenge in House 98 primary

Tasha Dillon is challenging the results of the Aug. 4 Democratic primary that declared her opponent David Myers the winner in the House District 98 contest.

The challenge comes after an investigation of ballot boxes conducted Monday on Dillon’s behalf by Pete Perry, who also is the Hinds County Republican Party chairman.
