Soaking rains good enough to lift state burn ban, but not local ones

A much-needed deluge of rain from the remants of Hurricane Patricia was good enough to prompt the governor’s office to lift a satwewide burn ban, but it’s still not OK to burn in Amite, Franklin or Pike counties, officials said.

Gov. Phil Bryant signed a proclamation Monday lifting the statewide burn ban that he ordered on Oct. 20.

Songwriters show Tuesday

As the second event in its fall lineup, the Pike County Arts Council is gearing up for a songwriter showcase Tuesday night.

Diane Michel, Kirsti Manna and Brian Ashley Jones will bring their music and the inspiration behind it to the State Theater in McComb at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
