After five terms on the city board, Ward 1 Selectman Danny Esch will not seek re-election, and Republicans Joseph McCarty and Ted Tullos will vie for the opening.
Both candidates hope to earn the seat Esch relinquished in their first bid for office.
A winner will be decided in the Nov. 1 party primaries.
