Police muster eyes, ears

As September approached, the McComb Police Department and Pike County chapter of the Mississippi Crime Stoppers program had notched 12 arrests through the year.

Since then, a change in approach and a major crime have combined to pave the way for an additional 13 arrests, including three connected to a killing.

Magee transferred to La.

Franklinton, La., resident Kaunda Lopaz Magee, who was at the center of a two-state, 25-day manhunt, returned to Louisiana Friday a short time after he was released from Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Magee back behind bars

A Franklinton, La., man who was at the center of a two-state, 25-day manhunt, was released from Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center at 10 a.m. today.

Pike County Sheriff Mark Shepherd said Kuanda Lopaz Magee, 36, will be held in the Pike County jail for the time being. His future destination is undetermined.

City hires Dowdy to clarify oilfield ownership

After an hour-long executive session, the McComb City Board agreed Tuesday to determine the city’s mineral ownership in the 10,000-acre McComb oil field in southwest McComb and hired board attorney Wayne Dowdy’s law firm, Dowdy, Cockerham & Watt, to handle the case.
