US retail sales were flat in July as inflation takes a toll

WASHINGTON (AP) — The pace of sales at U.S. retailers was unchanged last month as persistently high inflation and rising interest rates forced many Americans to spend more cautiously.

Retail purchases were flat after having risen 0.8% in June, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. Economists had expected a slight increase.

Asian stocks follow Wall St down after Fed inflation report

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stock markets followed Wall Street lower Thursday after the Federal Reserve said U.S. inflation is too high, suggesting support for more aggressive interest rate hikes.

Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney declined. Oil prices edged higher.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are edging higher in early trading on Wall Street Tuesday as traders brace for a big week of news on inflation and company earnings reports. The S&P 500 was up 0.2% in the early going, the Nasdaq was up 0.4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average of 30 major blue chips was up 0.4%.
