Stock market today: Asian markets are mixed after a slow day on Wall St ahead of US inflation update

BANGKOK (AP) — Shares were mixed in Asia on Wednesday after U.S. stock indexes held at a near standstill ahead of some potentially market-moving reports.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.9% to 17,144.54, while the Shanghai Composite index slipped 0.3% to 3,088.25.

Stocks drifted to a mixed close after last week’s roller-coaster ride left them shy of their records. The S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq composite all ended little changed.

HONG KONG (AP) — Asia stocks were mostly higher on Tuesday, with investors mainly focusing on a U.S. inflation report and what it means for interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

Oil prices advanced while U.S. futures were mixed. The yen weakened, coming close to a 34-year low.
