Dewayne Pounds prides himself on being quiet.

Off the football field, the South Pike sophomore running back is as unassuming a figure as one could ever meet.

“He’s just a quiet, well-mannered kid,” South Pike head coach Randall Huffman said. “He works hard and he plays hard.”

His team’s reclassification from Class 3A to 4A this season has done little to dampen the confidence of South Pike head boys’ basketball coach Joe Taylor.

The coach, entering his fifth year as the Eagles’ head man, doesn’t see the move as a problem, but more of a chance for the Eagles to reach some lofty goals.

Tigers pick up 14-7 win at Forest Hill’s expense

Both offenses struggled, penalties were abound and the overall officiating was questioned by both head coaches.

Still, a win is sweet, especially when there’s revenge involved. McComb avenged the 25-20 loss to the Forest Hill Patriots that ended the Tigers’ 2008 season.
