The Pioneers pounded out 14 hits in a 20-9, five-inning victory over Hillcrest Academy on Thursday evening, then were held to one hit later in the evening and blanked by host Brookhaven Academy 10-0 in five innings in the three-team twinbill.

Players in the McComb Exchange Softball League's 11- to 12-year-olds division simply wanted a field of their own.

Lady Eagles finish 2nd

South Pike took second place and North Pike finished third in the four-team Girls’ South State Class 2 Powerlifting meet held Friday at South Pike.

McClain won the team meet with 65 points, followed by South Pike and North Pike with 47 and 26 points, respectively.

Columbia finished fourth with 11 points.
