Man held in Brookhaven shooting

A Jackson man wanted in connection with a deadly July 3 shooting in Brookhaven is being held in the Pike County jail, booking records show.

Anson T. Taylor, 24, is being held in the Pike County jail on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Anthony “Antonio” McDaniel, 49.

Pike sees 2-week surge

Health officials identified 18 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pike County on Friday as the area neared an infection rate severe enough to trigger a state-imposed mask mandate, curfews and other restrictions.

The county has had 488 documented infections since March.
