Admittedly, the high dudgeon that has been raised by civil rights groups, Mississippi and national Democrats, and a little less caustically by Mike Espy over his Republican opponent’s “public hanging” quip stems from desperation. They know the odds of Espy winning the Nov. 27 runoff are almost insurmountably long.
