A couple of days ago, the fortunes of Mississippi’s two Southeastern Conference baseball teams seemed certain.
Mississippi State, after a first-round 20-10 shellacking in the NCAA Tournament, would go home early. Ole Miss, hosting a regional and winner of its first two games, would advance to a super regional, again at home.
