Banquet honors Miss. Scholars

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce gave away 52 scholarships as part of its Mississippi Scholars program in a banquet Friday — the most scholarships the chamber has given since the local program’s inception.

Chamber program coordinator Shawn Lowery said officials received 92 scholarship applications.

A Summit police officer collided with another car while in pursuit of an escaped inmate.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said Officer Sonya Woodall of McComb and Tracey Gardner of Summit were both traveling north on Martin Luther King Drive in Summit near Honeysuckle Trail.
