Under cloudy skies Friday evening, the family of Zerrick Ward gathered outside Craft Funeral Home in McComb to hold a candlelight vigil for the Magnolia man who was gunned down a week earlier when he opened his front door.

Mary Havins and Jimmy Thomas weren’t looking for love, but love found them at a McComb nursing home.

Havins, 54, and Thomas, 62, both residents of Courtyard Nursing and Rehab, said it was love at first sight.

They plan to tie the knot at the nursing home in a small ceremony Saturday.

Attempted heroin hand-off in court nets arrest

A woman who allegedly tried to pass off a bag of heroin to a Pike County jail inmate inside a courtroom on Thursday found herself in jail this weekend.

Carrie McClendon, 28, 205 S. Locust St., McComb was arrested in Osyka Municipal Court and charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
