Brookhaven sees 2nd shooting in 2 days

Brookhaven police are trying to determine if there’s a connection between a fatal shooting Monday and another that took place the day before.

Police Chief Bobby Bell said officers went to a house at 402 Vivian Meritt St. around 11:48 p.m. Monday to investigate what sounded like gunshots.

Officer found guilty of assault

A judge has found Gloster police officer Clinton Robinson guilty of the simple assault of a Baton Rouge woman.

Amite County Justice Court Judge Louis Green ordered Robinson to pay $347 in fines and court fees for the misdemeanor incident that took place on May 7 at Gloster Town Hall.

Summit man accused of killing girlfriend

Summit police charged a man with murder Monday in the death of his girlfriend, who was found dead in his apartment on Saturday.

Matthew Bell, 76, of 501 Baldwin St., remained in the Pike County Jail held on $1 million bond this morning for the killing of Shranda Denise McBride, 41, of McComb.

Amite parents seek answers

Amite County parents packed the North Pike School Board meeting on Thursday as they requested reconsideration for students whose enrollment is in question under the state’s 30-mile rule.

There was standing room only by the time the meeting began, even though only two parents spoke before the board.
