I don’t blame Viking Range Corp. for squeezing Mississippi for a helping of corporate welfare.

It does take a little chutzpah for Selim Bassoul to do it within a year of ordering layoffs of more than 20 percent of the kitchen appliance maker’s Mississippi workforce, all while the parent company is showing record profits.

McLeod Meek was a skeptic last spring about a report of wild hogs infiltrating his yard on the banks of the Tallahatchie River in North Greenwood.

His wife told him she saw two or three piglets running right in front of her car when she pulled into their driveway. A friend of theirs later claimed she saw them, too.
