Hammond: Chant doesn’t reflect USM

Interim University of Southern Mississippi athletic director Jeffery Hammond said Tuesday that the actions of pep band members who chanted a racial slur during an NCAA tournament basketball game don’t accurately reflect the USM student body.

Hammond made his remarks after speaking to the McComb Lions Club on Tuesday.

Mill, jobs eyed in Gloster

LIBERTY — Amite County supervisors on Friday took one of the first steps in luring a British wood pellet manufacturer to locate a plant and 30 to 40 jobs in Gloster.

The board approved a non-binding letter of intent to purchase a town-owned 55-acre tract where the Solid Waste transfer property is located in Gloster.

The body of Audrea Bullock Bell, 41, was discovered in her 2002 BMW in front of her home at 544 N. Magnolia St. at 8:50 a.m.
