Breland elected new Walthall sheriff

Kyle Breland will become Walthall County’s next sheriff after securing 68 percent of the vote in a five-man field Tuesday night.

Breland, who ran as a Democrat, dominated the sheriff’s race with 2,959 votes.

Mord, Smith in Nov. 24 runoff for chancery judge

Wayne Smith and Conrad Mord led a field of five candidates to advance to a Nov. 24 runoff in the special election for the new 4th District chancery judge’s race.

Smith led with 6,344 votes (34 percent), while Mord finished with 4,418 votes (24 percent).
