Summit man to premiere independent film

Hattiesburg’s FestivalSouth Film Expo, part of a three-week multi-genre festival of the arts, will include the work of a local filmmaker Wednesday evening.

Kendal Miller, a Starkville native who now lives with his wife and two kids in Summit, directed “The Flying Dutchmen,” his first feature-length film.

Local jobless rate at lowest in 8 years

Pike County’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in eight years.

In April the rate was 5.8 percent, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

The figure represents a drop of six-tenths of a percentage point from March.

Poll: Ditch Delaware plan

Judge orders new Ward 3 election, vacates office

A judge on Friday ordered a runoff election to be held for the McComb Ward 3 selectman seat, saying a clerical error affecting a single affidavit ballot prevented Albert Eubanks from winning a February special election outright.

Additionally, the judge ordered the office to be vacated.
