Summit officials hope to hire a new police chief next week.
The town council discussed the upcoming hire behind closed doors for nearly half an hour at the start of Tuesday’s work session.
“Next week at the regular board meeting, we will appoint a police chief,” Mayor Percy Robinson said.
The town council recently appointed a committee of police officials from around the area and one resident of the town to review applicants and make a recommendation for the position to the council.
The new chief will replace Kenny Cotton, who resigned in December. Scott Reeves was appointed to serve in the interim.
In related police news, officers answered 110 calls for service in December, including 10 wrecks, 19 disturbances, 27 alarm calls and multiple traffic stops.
