McComb High School senior quarterback Alex Woodall made it known that he wanted to be a signal-caller at the next level in college.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Woodall commited to Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. Saturday.
Woodall had a scholarship offer in hand from Mississippi State to play tight end, but Woodall stuck to his guns and chose Tech.
“Really, I was trying to look for a college who wanted me to come in and play quarterback,” Woodall said Sunday night. “When State offered me the (tight end) scholarship, I wasn’t so sure about it. I knew that when I left high school I wanted to go play quarterback at the next level.”
Woodall said Louisiana Tech cooled off towards him before the Bulldogs refocused on him.
“At one point Tech backed off for a minute and started back coming at me even harder,” Woodall said. “They told me I was No. 1 on the recruit board, and that meant something to me.”
Woodall also had offers from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern University and Grambling State University. Ole Miss, Southern Mississippi and LSU also showed interest, among other schools.
McComb is 6-4 overall this season and Woodall has thrown for 1,860 yards with 19 touchdowns. He has rushed for 301 yards and 12 more touchdowns.
As a junior, Woodall threw for 1,721 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also ran for 219 yards and six touchdowns.
McComb travels to Vancleave Friday for the first round of the 4A playoffs.
