Ja’terrious Wilson of McComb threw a complete game one-hitter in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Richland Friday to give the Tigers a 1-0 win.
Wilson recorded five strikeouts while giving up one walk.
The Tigers won the series against the Rangers 2-1.
McComb (7-7, 3-6) scored in the top of the first inning on a fielder’s choice.
Wilson was 1 for 2, Jay Smith and Chad Martezion were each 1 for 3 and Jamiah Andrews was 1 for 3 with a double.
McComb lost Game 1 at Richland Friday 2-1.
Martezion pitched all 6 innings for the Tigers giving up one earned run and three walks while recording two strikeouts.
Andrews, who was 1 for 2 with an RBI, hit a one-run single in the first inning for McComb.
However, Richland scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
Wilson was 1 for 3 with a walk for McComb. Dee Bonds was 1 for 3 and Martezion was 1 for 2 with a walk.
McComb is scheduled to host North Pike at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Parklane falls in shootout
Eighteen hits weren’t enough for the Parklane Academy baseball team as it lost a shootout to Natchez Cathedral 13-12 on Friday.
Casey Anders was 4 of 5 and scored two runs for the Pioneers. He singled in the third, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Brett Lott was charged with the loss for Parklane (10-7) allowing seven runs, walking three while striking out none in 32⁄3 innings of work.
Parklane took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Quartez Brown singled, stole second base and scored on a Zach Thomas single. Newlon Gillihan’s bases-clearing double scored Anders, Justin Johnston and Corey Lewis.
After Cathedral went up 11-5, Parklane scored two in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 11-7. Johnston hit a one-run double and Logan Larrimore hit a one-run single.
Another three came home in the bottom of the sixth for Parklane to cut Cathedral’s lead to 13-10. Lewis hit a one-run double, Anders hit a one-run single and Johnston stole home.
Colin Reed hit a one-run single during a two-run bottom of the seventh for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers are at Oak Forest Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Parklane hosts Oak Forest at 5 and 7 p.m. Thursday.
North Pike beats Poplarville
The North Pike softball team got back on the winning track with a 9-4 victory on the road against district opponent Poplarville Thursday.
Sarah Brock was 1 for 5 with one run and one RBI for the Lady Jaguars (7-4); Jami Spears was 2 for 4; Madison Bigner was 1 for 3; Baylee Bryant was 2 for 3 with one run, two RBIs and one double; Linley Smith was 2 for 4 with two runs, one RBI and one double; Jenna Brock was 1 for 4 with one run and one RBI; and Janay Maxwell was 1 for 3 witb two runs.
Bigner pitched all 7 innings allowing two earned runs and three walks while recording two strikeouts.
North Pike lost to Northwest Rankin 7-1 in Brandon Friday.
Bigner was the losing pitcher allowing seven runs in 6 innings, walking two while striking out one.
Sarah Brock was 1 for 3 with one run, Spears was 1 for 3 with Bigner was 1 for 2 with a walk.
North Pike hosts Columbia at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
