The United Givers of Southwest Mississippi will begin its 2012-13 fundraising campaign Sept. 15 with a softball tournament at the McComb Sports Complex.
United Givers, formerly known as the United Way, is a fundraising organization that gives back to local communities through various organizations around the country.
The local organization helps support 16 different agencies in Pike, Walthall and Amite counties.
“It’s a good way to help,” said Molly Johnson, executive director of the United Givers of Southwest Mississippi. “We have lots of great agencies that do lots of good things for children and adults in need and great way for the community to give back for them.”
The United Givers’ campaign begins Sept. 1, but the first major event is the softball tournament.
Johnson, who is in her first year as executive director, said the organization used to hold a golf tournament but made the switch to a softball tournament this year after some suggestion from its board.
Johnson said the organization’s goal for the campaign, which runs through Nov. 21, is $160,000.
The co-ed softball tournament is for ages 16 and up and is $200 per team consisting of five men and five women.
The deadline to sign up is Sept. 10. For more information, call Johnson at 248-8295.
