While it wasn’t the prettiest of victories, McComb girls basketball coach Angelia Johnson will take what she can get.
McComb caused 31 Pearl turnovers Tuesday night and shot 47 percent from the field in a 62-38 win.
At times, McComb looked like one of the stronger teams in the area. But at other ventures, the Lady Tigers would be hard-pressed to beat anyone.
“We’re trying to get over that hump and again, that’s a mindset where you just have to make up your mind and do it … I guess you’ll never be satisfied until you get to that final destination but there is always room to do better,” Johnson said.
Raneka Felder nearly recorded a triple-double for McComb with 20 points, nine steals and eight rebounds. Felder did most of her damage inside, with an array of right- and left-handed layups.
“I’m always going to look at the stuff they didn’t do but those were great numbers on her part,” Johnson said.
McComb and Pearl played to a 21-21 tie at the break but the Lady Tigers slowly pulled away and forced 17 second-half turnovers.
A 3-pointer from Angelina Earl with 4:30 left in the fourth quarter put McComb up for good at 47-31. Earl finished with 17 points and four steals. Angelique Earl finished with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting.
