It was not a good day on Tuesday for the home team, as the Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears dropped a Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges South Division doubleheader to visiting Pearl River, 8-1 and 7-1.
The losses drop Southwest to 14-10 on the season and 4-4 in the division.
Pearl River climbed to 16-13 and 5-5.
A two-out, bases-loaded single by Bethany Russell put the visitors on top 2-0 in the first inning and proved to be all the runs they would need.
Pearl River added runs in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
Southwest scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Whitney Moore led off the inning with a double and later scored on a groundout by Christina Hollins-Campbell.
Moore also had a single in the game, while Roxanne Lock had three singles. Hollins-Campbell, Maggie Jackson and Kaitlyn Perry also hit safely. Moore was the losing pitcher for the Lady Bears.
In the finale, the Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the first, second and fourth innings and added a single run in the sixth.
Southwest picked up its sole run in the bottom of the fifth when Hollins-Campbell led off the inning with a home run to center field.
Lock had a single and double for the Lady Bears, while Jackson and Hali Sasser singled. Pitcher Ashlyn Grisaffe took the loss.
Southwest returns to action at 4 p.m. Thursday when the Lady Bears travel to Wesson to face arch-rival Copiah-Lincoln for another doubleheader.
