In similar fashion to their previous game in the McComb Christmas tournament, the South Pike Eagles jumped out quick and never let off the gas en route to a 63-33 win over Wilkinson County Friday afternoon.
South Pike quickly gained a 19-2 lead to start off the game and led by as many as 36 points. The win keeps South Pike undefeated on the year as district play is set to begin in the next week.
NaKaylis Washington led the team with 19 points, followed by Tomia Mitchell with 14 points. Other scorers were: Moriah Hurst (6), Alyssa Smith (7), Alexandreail Jackson (6), Kiara Thomas (3), Precious Ard (2), Chasey Hall (2), Diedra Johnson (2) and Shanayah Hayes (2).
South Pike 72, Wilkinson 51
The South Pike Eagles won their second straight game Friday night, bouncing back from Wednesday night’s loss to Bay High to open tournament play
South Pike (8-3) started the game on a 15-4 run. Quan Carter earned a 4-point play, which put the Eagles up 22-12 late in the first quarter.
A Wilkinson County three pointer cut the South Pike lead to 24-18 early in the second quarter, but the Eagles responded quickly, going on a run to build a 45-28 advantage with under a minute to go in the half following two Justin Williams free throws.
The Eagles continued to build on their lead, gaining a 63-40 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
Ja’Quarius Lewis was the leading scorer with 15 points, followed by Jalon Andrews with 13. Other scorers were: Demarcus Ellzey (10), Justin Edwards (8), Carter (8), Devon Harris (6), Williams (4), Tyreaccus Bateaste (3), De’vonta Harrell (2) and Kamarcus Wells (2).
The team’s next game will be Tuesday on the road against Brookhaven Academy.
