Parklane Academy split its doubleheader at Columbia Academy Thursday with a 13-1 win in the first game and a 3-1 loss in the nightcap.
The Pioneers had no errors in either game and had 11 hits in the win.
“For the whole day, I feel like our guys played really well,” Parklane head coach Robert Young said. “Our pitchers really battled on the mound for us. Hitters did well. To be honest with you, that latter inning, we pretty much won the game on the box score but lost it on the scoreboard. The guys played hard. It was a good team effort.”
Jonathan Turner had three hits and two home runs in the win, Quartez Brown had two doubles, Carr Young hit a home run, Peyton Yawn, while Cole Smith and Zach Thomas each had one.
Turner had six RBIs, Brown had three, Carr Young had two and Peyton Yawn had one.
Carr Young threw all five innings and gave up just one hit on a home run. He recorded 10 strikeouts and gave up one walk.
In the second game, the teams were tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the fifth and Parklane gave up two hit-by-pitches, one intentional walk and a double, which led to two runs for Columbia.
Parklane’s run came on a Corey Lewis homer.
Turner, Brown and Smith all had hits for Parklane.
Tyler Etheridge threw five innings for Parklane, gave up two hits, three runs and two earned runs. He walked four and struck out seven hitters.
Logan Yawn threw one inning, gave up no hits and one walk, while recording two strikeouts.
The Pioneers (7-4, 1-1) are at Presbyterian Christian School at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
