Parklane Academy did a little bit of everything Friday night in a 41-0 road romp over district foe Hillcrest Christian.
The Pioneers rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns, returned a punt for a touchdown and held Hillcrest to 48 yards of total offense.
The win pushes Parklane to 6-1 on the season (2-0 in district play) and surpasses the win total from the previous two seasons.
“We came out and executed what we wanted to do,” Parklane coach Mike Powell said. “We were pretty clean for the most part. Our goal was to go in and run the football and work on some run-game stuff.”
The lopsided win also gave Parklane’s starters extra rest, as the Pioneers played their second-stringers almost the entire second half.
“It’s always good when you can get those guys in and run all the offensive and defensive plays and get some game experience,” Powell said. “Those guys deserve to get in.”
Joseph Clark led Parklane with 67 yards on eight carries and a touchdown and quarterback Brady Lea accounted for 51 yards and a score.
Meanwhile, Parklane’s defense stuffed Hillcrest’s non-existent running game. Hillcrest carried it 28 times for 34 yards (0.8 yards per carry).
Linebacker James Michael Schmidt led Parklane with seven tackles. Walt Aldridge chipped in with four, while Jace Travis had three and Dylan Barnes, Dillon Brent and Justin Brent all had two each.
Justin Brent also added a 75-yard punt return in the third quarter, which capped Parklane’s scoring at 41-0.
Lea and Clark scored from 1- and 3-yards out in the first quarter to give the Pioneers an early 14-0 lead. Taylor Burt added a 3-yard run to make it 20-0 and a 65-yard scamper from Logan Morel made it 27-0 in the second quarter. Burt finished with 36 yards on eight carries.
Reserve quarterback Carr Young got in on the scoring action just before halftime when he connected with Zach Stutzman on a 38-yard touchdown pass. The senior led all receivers with three catches for 75 yards.
Parklane returns home for a matchup with Starkville Academy next week.
