After losing its first game of the season to Jackson Academy Thursday, Parklane Academy got back on the winning track with a 15-10 win at Central Private School on Saturday.
Starting pitcher Henry McDonald picked up his first win playing for the Pioneers (3-1) after going three innings, giving up one hit and no runs, while recording four strikeouts. McDonald is a senior, who spent his first three years at McComb High School and has committed to playing for Southwest Mississippi Community College next season.
Robert Pickett went two innings giving up three earned runs and one walk, while recording one strikeout. Logan Yawn came on to earn the save giving up three hits, two earned runs and one walk, while recording two strikeouts.
“I thought we played bet ter today,” Parklane headbaseball coach Robert Young said. “We played like we were coming into our own. We’ve got to keep playing.”
Corey Lewis, Yawn and Carr Young each had three hits for Parklane. Lewis connected on a grand slam, while Yawn reached on a triple.
Peyton Yawn, Zach Thomas, Quartez Brown and Cole Smith each had two singles, while Jonathan Turner and Brandt Watson each had one single.
Coach Young declined to comment on his team’s strengths and weaknesses because he is still evaluating everyone.
“I just would really like to say our guys are playing for each other and playing for the Lord,” he said.
The Pioneers had played in the cold the first three games, but it was hot and sunny on Saturday.
“The weather was a lot better today than it has been,” Young said. “This weather has been crazy, but today was beautiful. It was a good day to play baseball.”
JR. HIGH SHUTS OUT CENTRAL PRIVATE
Brett Lott pitched a shutout as the junior high Pioneers won at Central Private School 9-0 on Saturday.
Parklane outhit the Rebels 8-2.
Watson, Casey Anders and Ethan Wilkinson has two hits each.
Anders connected on a double and Newlon Gillihan reached on a triple.
Parklane had one error and Central Private had two.
Parklane is scheduled to play Bowling Green Academy at home Tuesday and on the road Friday. The junior high is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with the high school following at 7 p.m. both nights.
