It was a long Friday night for Parklane Academy, as nothing went right in a 45-0 loss against homestanding Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg.
Parklane had 15 penalties and five turnovers, which were too much to overcome against the Bobcats’ offense.
“We turned the ball over to many times and did a poor job on tackling on defense,” Parklane head coach Brian Stutzman said. “Every time we got a drive going we had a penalty that would stop it. We just made to many mistakes on offense and defense to have a chance to win the game.”
The Pioneers generated 193 total yards of offense while suffering 102 penalty yards in the game. Running back Jay Smith led Parklane with 87 yards on 18 carries.
Parklane’s defense allowed Presbyterian Christian to amass 462 total yards including 158 rushing yards by their star tailback Isaiah Woullard for the game. Bobcats quarterback Luke Hudson also shredded the Pioneers’ defense, going 10 of 11 passing for 124 yards.
The Pioneers kept in close for the first quarter, only allowing a 26-yard field goal and trailed 3-0 at the end of the first period.
But the Bobcats’ offense got rolling in the second quarter with a 14-yard Woullard touchdown run. Then Woullard added another 5-yard touchdown run, and Hudson’s 19-yard scamper for a score to conclude the first half scoring. Those 21 unanswered points put the Pioneers in a 24-0 hole at halftime.
Presbyterian continued to pour it on in the third quarter, with Woullard Sprinting for his third score of the night on a 6-yard run for a 31-0 lead. Quarterback Luke Hudson then connected with Brandon Thornton for an 18-yard touchdown pass extend the lead to 38-0.
The Bobcats’ offense continued to roll into the fourth quarter when running back Sheldon James added a 67-yard rushing touchdown to make the final score 45-0.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-1 on the young season, while the Bobcats climbed to 3-0.
“PCS was able to execute and they have a really good team,” Stutzman said. “We’ve got to cut down on turnovers and penalties and much better on defense if we are going to be successful”.
The Pioneers are on the road for the third consecutive week at Madison-Ridgeland Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
