Parklane Academy enjoys running the football. So does Centreville Academy.
There may be a difference in the way the two run, but the result will be the same when the two teams square off Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Centreville.
The game was scheduled for tonight but school officials moved it to Saturday morning after surveying tropical weather effects from Isaac.
Both teams enter the contest with perfect 2-0 records and dominant performances to show from each win.
Parklane routed Bowling Green, 45-6, to open the season and added a 26-0 win over Oak Forest last week.
Meanwhile, Centreville blew past Amite School Center, 56-0, in its opener and came back with a 37-6 victory over Trinity Episcopal.
Against Trinity, Centreville racked up 218 rushing yards. The Tigers are a typical, downhill running team, unlike Parklane’s spread offense.
“That’s Centreville’s strong point. They are a run first — 85 to 90 percent run,” Parklane coach Mike Powell said. “Hand it downhill, go right at you type power game. Once they get you biting on the run, they’ll throw a few passes.”
Parklane isn’t too bad with its run game, either.
The Pioneers racked up 186 yards against Bowling Green and 210 against Oak Forest.
“We are going a lot off of what they did during the (jamboree) and how they played on film,” Powell said. “If the run is there, we’ll run it. If they don’t want us to run it, we’ll figure out how to throw it.”
Centreville’s two main running threats are Colton Terrell and Randy Bell. The duo combined for 178 yards and three touchdowns against Trinity.
“Hard-nosed is the first thing that comes to mind,” Powell said. “They are going to run downhill and they usually don’t go down after first contact.”
