The North Pike Lady Jaguars went 1-1 Saturday afternoon at the Brandon tournament, losing 12-1 to Germantown before beating the host Brandon 8-3.
In the second game of the day, it didn’t take the Lady Jaguars (10-12) long to get on the board. Kaylea Wagner’s double to center field in the first inning put North Pike ahead 1-0.
The batter, Linley Smith, singled to bring Wagner in and give the Lady Jaguars a 2-0 advantage.
Madison Moak’s double in the second inning scored a run, followed by Wagner’s RBI groundout that ended the scoring in the second inning.
Brandon entered the scoring column in the fourth inning on a double to left field.
Jenna Brock’s bunt single, followed by Wagner’s single and Smith’s sacrifice fly, gave the Lady Jaguars a comfortable 8-1 cushion.
Brandon added a run in the fifth and in the seventh before the North Pike defense ended the game.
Seventh-grader Natalie Deer earned the win for the Lady Jaguars. She pitched a complete game, while allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits with three strikeouts.
North Pike swung the bats well in the game, mustering 12 hits. Wagner, Brock and Moak had two hits apiece. Wagner led the way with three RBIs.
Germantown 12, N. Pike 1
In the first game of the day, it was close throughout, until Germantown hung seven runs in the bottom of the sixth that ended the game after six innings.
Germantown held a 5-0 after three innings and North Pike’s run came in the fifth on Smith’s RBI single.
The Lady Jaguars had six hits, but also committed four errors.
Freshman Meredith Bates got the start in the circle for North Pike. She pitched 5⅓ innings and allowed 10 runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts. Tristen Tolar pitched ⅓ of an inning in relief.
Smith had two hits to lead North Pike.
