With great pitching and timely hitting, the North Pike Jaguars secured a 6-0 shutout victory over Natchez Cathedral Green Wave on Friday.
“We just played a solid game tonight,” said head coach George Lott. “We pitched great and hit the ball when we needed to, couldn’t ask much more out of them tonight.”
The Jags had solid pitching in the win, with Cade Killingsworth tossing three innings of work with three strikeouts and one walk.
Parker Esch came in relief and held the Green Wave in check, pitching four innings with two strikeouts and one hit.
“We started with Cade tonight to get a bull pen in because he starts Tuesday and brought Parker in and he pitched a solid four innings,” Lott said.
North Pike got the scoring going in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single from Kran Howell.
Paul Willingham added a RBI single of his own to extend the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning to 2-0. Kran Howell followed him up with a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-0.
Austin Fortenberry added on to the lead with a RBI fielders choice in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 5-0 ball game.
The scoring ended in the bottom of the sixth inning from a RBI single by Jacob Johnson.
Even with a solid win, Coach Lott believes his team could be better.
“We just have to clean up the game,” Lott said. “We can’t make errors and we still aren’t hitting the ball like we are supposed to.”
