The Southwest Mississippi Community College track and field teams will begin competition at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s National Outdoor Championship meet today at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
A total of 12 Southwest athletes have qualified for the championships.
National qualifiers for the Southwest men are Marcus Campbell in the triple jump, Ramon Crockett in the long jump, Andrew Hughes in the pole vault, Greg Hunt in the 200 meter dash, Martin Kirui in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Mario McCottrell in the 800 meters, Jamal Wilson in the high jump and Clyde Young in the 100 meters 110 meter hurdles, 200 meters and long jump.
The competitors for the Southwest women are-Taneisha Baker in the 200 and 400, Chiquita Blue in the 400 hurdles, Krystal Bodie in the 100 and 200 and Sheniqua Ferguson also in the 100 and 200.
The Southwest women will also compete in the 4 x100 relay. Ferguson will lead off with Bodie and Baker in the middle and Blue serving as the anchor.
